These are some of the best electric pianos for intermediate players to advanced players. Yamaha P155 Electric Pianos

Yamaha P155

The Yamaha P155 Electric Pianos are great electric pianos for those of you who would like a better key action than a beginner level electric piano. These electric pianos include the “Graded Hammer Effect” keyboard, which is a pretty big step up from the keyboard used in the Yamaha P95 (which uses the “Graded Hammer Standard” keyboard). This more realistically simulates the feel of an excellent acoustic piano, and is widely regarded as a fantastic feeling electric piano. Yamaha YDP181

The Yamaha YDP181 Electric Piano is another fine piano made by Yamaha. It also includes the upgraded keyboard found on the P155 pictured above, but it also includes many other features as well. Included is the fantastic rosewood cabinet, as well as a bench (not pictured). These electric pianos have been compared favorably with the much more expensive Yamaha Clavinova models costing almost twice as much. Casio AP-620 Electric Pianos

Casio AP-620

The Casio AP-620 Celviano Digital Piano is a fantastic piano at a great price. It is usually priced less than the Yamaha above, yet includes more features and a great feeling and sounding keyboard. If you had asked who made the best digital piano for under $1500 just a couple of years ago, the answer would have been Yamaha. No longer. Casio has really stepped up to the plate and delivered an electric piano that includes features you just won’t find on other pianos in this price range.

Included is a 16-track MIDI recorder/player with built-in SD card storage which lets you record 16 separate parts (instruments) or tracks at one time and play them back simultaneously, and hundreds of other music features. You can also play back hundreds of piano lesson book practice pieces and songs. You can even slow down the tempo while you are first learning the song, which is an excellent way to learn how to play songs by ear and get a better understanding of the rhythm and timing of a song.

Lastly, Casio developed a new synthetic ivory feel key, which is normally found on electric pianos costing well over $2,000. The feel of the keys is therefore much improved compared to many other electric pianos. With all of these features, the Casio AP-620 wins our gold award with ease. Click here for more information.
